Should Sibbesborg become a new Tapiola – or not?

Workshop2_IMG_5739_webThe online audience asked, could Sibbesborg learn something from the process of how Tapiola was born. There seems to be a perfect balance of cars and pedestrians in Tapiola, so should we make a new garden city? Opposing views were also mentioned as Tapiola was seen as a social desert. Should it become a role model for Sibbesborg or not? One commentator was very critical of should Sibbesborg even be located in Sipoo at all. Maybe it would be more sustainable to build it in Vantaa, Helsinki or Espoo?

Workshop 2, comments from the online audience

André I throw your question back to you: what is you personal opinion about ex Tapiola in Finland? Do you know anything about the historical process of birth?

If the population increase is considered inevitable, could it be a more sustainable alternative to build Sibbesborg not in Sibbo but in Vantaa, Helsinki or Espoo as an extension to current cities?

Hm, for many of us Tapiola is in a positive way Scandinavian, the local landsvape of Southern Finland is preserved. I think there is a balance of cars and pedesytrian-lighter traffic, perhaps there is good over-all-level of serves ? If I had a chance to live in Scandinavia I would perhaps choose Tapiola

I go past Tapiola nearly everyday and the place is a social desert, physiologically appealing in all that open greenness but hardly conducive to social exchange along the ideas of Jan Gehl
André Van Tulder 27.10.2010 13:58

There must have been a distinct process behind the birth of Tapiola in Finland? Can Sibbeborg learn something from that process?
Frank David 27.10.2010 13:55

Can you in Finland-Sibbo learn something FROM THE PROCESS of höw TAPIOLA WAS BORN ?
